Why should the international community care?

America is still the biggest influencer of global politics and markets. Who knows how long this will last, but for the next decade or so this will still hold true. The President of the United States of America is the most influential person in the world for better or worse. The last few years been more of the latter than the former; think for a minute how much the policies of George W Bush have changed your lives, your emotional well being, and the issues that are important to you. Now that he's being replaced...imagine what someone else could do...for better or worse...that is why we should care.

Why Should Americans care what the International Community Thinks?

Because you now need to pretend to be Canadians when travelling most of the world.... Eight years ago America was running high in the international list. People of all ages would think it was cool to wear clothes with American flags on them. America was considered a beacon of hope of principle, even with all its scars it was still everyone's superhero. American was a symbol of global pride. No longer. Times have changed. There is a MASSIVE difference between being wanted and being needed. Once America was wanted, now it is needed, and when people need something that they don’t want they try their best to wean themselves off it.

Americans should care what the international community thinks because America is finally experiencing the other end of globalization, where it finds that it needs the international community for economic growth and security. Imagine an international community that will help America not because it has to or is forced or bribed to, but because they know that by helping America they are doing the right thing.

Imagine being loved again, respected again, admired again; there is still time to rebuild those bridges, to inspire that confidence. As an American, you will be judged by the international community by your vote.  A vote for Obama is a vote for the international community, a vote that says:

"Enough! America does not pay lip service to its principles, but lives and abides by them."

But Why Obama?

“When I am this party's nominee, my opponent will not be able to say that I voted for the war in Iraq; or that I gave George Bush the benefit of the doubt on Iran; or that I supported Bush-Cheney policies of not talking to leaders that we don't like. And he will not be able to say that I wavered on something as fundamental as whether or not it is ok for America to torture — because it is never ok… I will end the war in Iraq… I will close Guantanamo. I will restore habeas corpus. I will finish the fight against Al Qaeda. And I will lead the world to combat the common threats of the 21st century: nuclear weapons and terrorism; climate change and poverty; genocide and disease. And I will send once more a message to those yearning faces beyond our shores that says, "You matter to us. Your future is our future. And our moment is now.”

— Barack Obama, Des Moines, Iowa, November 10, 2007

The truth is the Obama is only candidate who is running who RESPECTS the international community and is not trying to simply MANAGE the international community. The difference is between someone who wants to talk and engage you, and someone who claims they can "handle" you. The former you can be friends with even if you disagree on everything, the latter is just a sleazy bouncer who will find any way to manipulate you. Obama's rivals espouse their alleged foreign policy credentials, which are quite laughable...years and years of manipulation, thuggery, pretend knowledge and stereotypes shouldn't count as positives. Start with the basics: trust, respect, and willingness to listen and learn. Those count for much more, in fact, they may count for everything.

What can I do?

Despite the fact that an American president affects so many of us, we are not allowed to financially contribute to the race. No matter, we can still rise up and tell the American voters what we think. This is a difficult time and a difficult choice for them, and more information and support from the international community can only help. We need to send a clear and simple message:

"Your vote decides our joint future - vote Obama"
